  • 'S Wonderful

BIG BAND INSTRUMENTAL. Originally arranged by Ray Conniff for the Shaw band and recorded in January 1945, this excellent chart works so well on many levels. It contains a fair number of innovative arrangement techniques: the opening unison Trombone riff, the Tenor doubling lead beneath the Trumpets, the Clarinet leading the Trumpets in the middle eight, a five-part combo in the middle and a great shift to full swing feel after Shaws' glorious solo work (which written out in full). Conniff has taken what is otherwise an arguably slightly dull tune and turned it into a masterpiece. This chart is a must for all Shaw lovers. Learn More

  • A Foggy Day

This swinging studio orchestra arrangement was written by Billy Byers in May of 1970 for a concert that Sinatra gave at Royal Festival Hall in November of that same year. This is classic Sinatra/Byers - swinging reed figures and punchy brass with string support. We have included a synth part that may be used in the event that your ensemble doesn't have access to string players. This is not a difficult arrangement (except for the brass ranges) and would be fairly easy to work up for a concert. Also, we have included the vocal line as written by Byers. Key of D flat. • A Kiss From You

At a 1973 concert at Princeton University Carter offered the big band version which was recorded in 1986 by the American Jazz Orchestra. Learn More

  • Adios

A hauntingly beautiful number from the Glenn Miller book. Ours is a faithfull reproduction of the original arrangement, with correct Miller voiced Saxes throughout. • AIR MAIL SPECIAL

Air Mail Special was originally titled Good Enough To Keep, which was recording session-speak for "This may not be the performance that we want to release to the public, but let"s hold on to it just in case." Many of these alternate performances were eventually released to the public, in many cases to the consternation of the musicians themselves, who didn't enjoy some of their lesser efforts being heard. Of course, some alternate performances are better than the ones that were released, only held back because of a single mistake. It was Mundy who arranged this for the Goodman band, and he is even cut in on composer credit. This arrangement, like all of Goodman's arrangements, was meant to be danced to, so it really should not be played too fast. Learn More
