    From the 1997 recording "Paquito D'Rivera and the UN Orchestra Live at MCG". Jazz MCG 1003. The mysterious energy created by employing the Afro-Cuban 6/8 rhythm starting pp with the rhythm and percussion sections, joined by 'sotto voce' saxes and gradually building, provides a wonderful vehicle for solos.     One of this Brazilian composer's most emotive slow ballads, arranged by Jerry Sheppard as a feature for two flugel horns (or Bb clarinets) with full band backing and a specially written Latin bass line. The piece is introduced by two flutes (cued on saxes) with 'free' Afro-Brazillian percussion designed to create an atmosphere of mystery and anticipation.     Jimmy Forrest took the 12 bar clues based 'Happy Go Luck Local' created by Duke Ellington and turned it into this incredibly effective driving jazz standard, made famous by Jimmy Smith, etc. With optional high/low trumpets our chart by Jerry Sheppard can be played with trumpet 1 no higher than E on the stave. After a solo piano introduction the lyrical melody played by the 1st tenor sax is combined with an underlying 6/4 jazz swing backing from the rhythm section, with the full band joining on the second chorus.
